I used many sections from the BB throughout the class and when I was working on material development--especially the rubric. McKenzie, James. (December 1999) The Research Cycle 2000 From Now On: The Educational Technology Journal 9(4) Retrieved 11/19/2008 http://questioning.org/rcycle.html
I was originally thinking of using the research cycle, because I prefer it in many ways to the Big 6 model, however, I believe that the popularity of the Big 6 and the plethora of resources available makes it more practical for future uses in school. Preddy, Leslie. (Developed 2001, Site created 2002). Student Inquiry in the Research Process. Accessed throughout project 11/1/08 to 12/5/08.
As I was working on this project, I returned to this powerful resource. The examples and resources are what I would plan to use with this unit and I would use many as is until I had used them and determined what modifications might work best with my students or a given group of students.
“Our failure to teach research as a recursive process may be, then, one decisive, if not the most decisive element in unsuccessful literacy instruction” (Stripling & Hughs-Hassell 142). from the project 4 of What’s the Issue by Brooke Green Fall 2007

I came across the quote when reviewing previous semesters projects and it really made sense to the ideas I was expressing in my project overview.

http://bestwebquests.com/bwq/listarea.asp?wqcatid=5&edid An entire list of “the best” health webquests…further exploration of the options and possibilities. http://www.web-and-flow.com/members/jcundiff/fastfoods/webquest.htm accessed 11/21/08 As I was working through project development and thought I had narrowed my topic, I was exploring various models and webquests in particular to see if I wanted to go that route. I had decided that I didn’t think I was going to, however, I came across this webquest which had an interesting problem/challenge that was similar to the topic I was considering. I thought that having students research “healthy” options at a variety of fast food restaurants would be a great piece of the puzzle or could be the unit. This webquest did a great job of giving a realistic scenario for the process. I don’t know yet how I might integrate or not integrate ideas from it.
Four Basics Steps (Real Media - 1:49) Listening to Kuhlthau reminded me that her writing regarding the process was something that I think is too often overlooked.
