Storie di uomini sulla Linea Gotica
Alla fine di settembre 1944 la 34th Infantry Division “Red Bull” americana conquistò Montepiano (provincia di Prato) difesa dai tedeschi della 334a Infanterie-Division, detta la “Falange africana”. Uno dei tanti scontri di quei giorni è quello avvenuto il 24 settembre nella zona di Bocca di Rio (Castiglione dei Pepoli). Oggi i segni della battaglia sono pochi e quasi indecifrabili ad un occhio non attento, ma qualche mese fa un ricercatore storico locale ha rinvenuto tre piastrine appartenenti ad altrettanti soldati caduti: due americani e un tedesco.
Con i ragazzi delle scuole di Castiglione dei Pepoli (provincia di Bologna), con l’aiuto dell’Associazione culturale “Terra Nostra” e dell’amministrazione comunale, ci proponiamo di ricostruire le biografie (anche contattando archivi militari e le associazione di reduci) di questi soldati caduti e di contattare le loro famiglie.

At the end of September 1944 the American 34th "Red Bull" Infantry Division took Montepiano (province of Prato) defended by the Germans of the 334th Infantry-Division, known as the "African Falange”. One of the many battles of those days took place on September 24 in the area of Bocca di Rio (Castiglione dei Pepoli). Today the remaining signs of the battle are few and almost impossible to make out for the unobservant eye, but a few months ago a local history researcher found three identity tags belonging to as many soldiers, two Americans and a German, killed there. With the school children of Castiglione dei Pepoli (Province of Bologna) and with the help of the "Terra Nostra" Cultural Association and the municipal administration, we intend to reconstruct the biographies of these fallen soldiers, contacting their families (this will also include referring to military archives and veterans’ associations). |
