What you’ll be able to do in Spanish this year: • talk about your classes & teachers • describe people, talk about where they are from and what they do • prove your knowledge of basic world geography & Latin customs • tell other people what your preferences and dislikes are • shop for clothing & school supplies, and order food & beverages • speak to people in formal and informal situations with courtesy • talk about family, home, sports, & other activities • tell about things you do often and what you will do soon (muchos verbos) • speak about what is interesting & what’s boring (más verbos) GRADING: Students earn a conduct grade and a scholarship grade. (1) Courteous student behavior that allows for optimum learning in class is rewarded with an O. This includes how you handle your personal electronics, all responsibilities, your teamwork, punctuality, make-up work and compliance with WL3 policies and rules. (2) Students earn their academic grade based on the quality of their performance in these four areas: • speaking • reading comprehension • listening comprehension • writing If you miss class, you are responsible for finding out what you missed as well as make-up after school. Special WL3 policies beyond the WHHS Student Handbook: 1. Because the teacher focuses on your mouth, never chew gum. No food or drinks allowed except for water. 2. Turn in your homework and projects on time for full credit. Work turned in one day late earns 50% less credit. 3. Your grades are weighted: • Final unit evaluations such as tests/compositions/projects = 35% & 10% Final Exam • Daily speaking and participation (both attendance and preparation are key requirements for a grade of A) = 25% • Quizzes=15% • Homework=15% 4. Students with an excused absence may make up a missed assignment upon return to school. Make-ups are always outside of the regular class time. Dates and room will be announced. Please listen for that in class. ☺ Talk to the teacher frequently but remember that between classes it is nearly impossible because the next students come right in…so just drop off a note with your number or send an e-mail to arafenstein@guhsd.net |
