KP Dinghy Open @ Merchant Marine Academy, 10/25-26- Zeynep Gul '11
Jack Marzulli '12, Erica Leavitt '11, Meredith Pfister '11 and I went to the Merchant Marine Academy for the KP Dinghy Open. The first day was very windy and rainy so Erica and I did not sail and Meredith and Jack sailed together. There were only three races until they called the races off because it was too windy. The second day was beautiful and we all sailed. Meredith and Erica did well. Jack and I did alright- struggled a little bit but managed to beat most of the time. Last race of the day Jack and I were protested totally without merit by "Collegiate Boy" from Colgate. Jack went into the deliberation prepared with good arguments (fight over rule 18) and Collegiate Boy's only argument was that it was a "blatant foul." But, since the Merchant Marines hated us, we lost the protest and were disqualified. It was our best race of the day.

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:

Sunday: Wind was out of the Northwest at 12 kts dying around noon then
shifting to West around 8 kts.  Seven races in A Division and eight in B
Division were sailed.  Course was windward leeward twice around with a
gate above the starting line.  3 protests were heard, resulting in 1
DSQ, no breakdowns, no redress.

Saturday: Wind was out of the south at 20 knots gusting to 30. Courses
were windward leeward twice around with a gate above the start line and
gold cup averaging 22 minutes.  1 protest was heard and thrown out, no
breakdowns, and no redress. 

Loyola and Syracuse were no-shows
