South Fall #2 (Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta) @ Georgetown, 10/4-5- John Wetenhall '11
This past weekend, five Princeton sailors traveled to our nation's capital for the annual Tom Curtis Regatta. Brandon Racusin '09 and John Wetenhall '11 sailed in the A division on both days. Scott Arcenas '09 skippered the B boat on Saturday and Tucker Willsie '11 skippered on Sunday. Kathleen Connor '11 was B crew both days. The weather was beautiful but the wind was light and variable. Each fleet only managed three races on Saturday, and five more on Sunday. The course was either a triangle windward leeward or windward leeward twice around. The fleet was aggressive on starts, resulting in many general recalls, and some races were abandoned due to a complete lack of wind. All in all it was a fun regatta, though we were disappointed about the lack of wind and our inability to go visit friends at Georgetown due to a massive outbreak of the norovirus, which kept the Georgetown sailors off the water. The regatta was the only Georgetown sporting event that took place over the weekend; all others were cancelled due to the virus.

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:

Saturday - Light Winds were the story at the Tom Curtis Regatta.  Two races
in each division were run by 12:30PM in NNE 3-5mph.  The wind shut off and
didn't pick up until 4PM.  One more A and B race were completed by 5:15PM.

Sunday – 5 Races completed in each division in shifty winds.  No protests
filed and only one breakdown.  Courses were Gold Cups and Windward leewards
with gates.  Congrats to Fordham for winning and for CNU and American for
qualifying for the War Memorial regatta.
