Central Fall #1, 9/20-21- Scott Arcenas '09
On Saturday, September 20, Allison Tracy ’10, Whitney Davis ’09, Matt Tilghman ’09 and I traveled down to OCC for our first qualifier of the fall season—Central 1. The first day the wind held fairly steady at around 10 knots, and thanks to OCC’s policy of on-the-water rotations we managed to get a respectable 11 races in despite a considerable lunch break.  Whitney and Matt sailed very well in B fleet with several top fives including one second place finish, while in the A division Allison and I—after a brief period of learning to cope with our rather unwieldy tech dinghy—managed several respectable finishes as well.

Kate Costello '12 (skipper) and John Wetenhall '11 (crew) replaced Matt and Whitney in B Division for Sunday, and on that day the wind gods were rather less kind. After one decent race we spent most of the day trying to find enough wind to stop us from drifting downstream in the current.  This would have been quite relaxing if OCC had not decided to race regardless of the wind, but after one forty-five-minute race in the B fleet—which half the fleet still failed to finish—they finally relented and sent us in.

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:

Saturday: Conditions were northeasterly ranging from 8-12 kts
 11 A division races and 11 B division races were completed.
Course was the CNU box with 420's and Techs on the same course.  No protests

Sunday: Light winds 0-5  8 races completed with a total of 30 races for the weekend 15 a 15 b
