Digestion

Something to consider. Food is not primarily for our taste buds! Yes, it's most pleasant when it tastes good but that's not what food is about. Food is about nourishing our bodies. It's about providing vitamins, minerals and amino acids to our cells. It's about cleansing and building our bodies! If we don't eat nourishing food, our body suffers. It really is simple. But, in this culture, and others I'm sure, this mindset is a significant change in perspective. We don't eat something if it doesn't taste or look good. Hence the genetically modified foods we find in the grocery stores. Our grandparents refrained from buying blemished tomatoes and overripe bananas and now we have produce that lasts forever it seems... Well, to provide what we asked for, they (the food producers) removed the foods natural enzymes to delay the decaying process. duh! we need those enzymes to help us digest the food! Enzymes are critical to the process... If we can't digest it, it sits in our stomachs and ferments - causing various ailments for some of us, or it passes into the intestines not fully digested, causing a variety of different ailments for others. So many of our 'more common' digestive and immune system diseases are results of our not digesting the food! So many of the over the counter and prescription meds we take (acid reflux comes to mind) just mask the problem by relieving the symptoms. So recognize that if you suffer from acid reflux but don't change what and/or how you eat, time will probably present you with another ailment... and another drug to take...

Digestion actually starts when one thinks, smells and sees food. Our system kicks into gear anticipating the food we will eat! The digestive process begins with the actual chewing of your food. Mother wasn't kidding when she pestered you to chew well. The more you chew your food into mush, incorporating more saliva into that biteful, the easier you make it for your stomach to continue the process. The more liquid you drink with your food, the harder you make the digestion process. It's advised to drink no more than 4 ounces of (not cold) liquids while eating as liquids dilute your digestive juices.  As quite a bit of the food we eat is either genetically modified or altered somehow with hormones or pesticides, or is just so processed that it's more artificial than real, it is helpful to add digestive enzymes to each meal. Taking these supplements will not negate the fact that you just consumed toxins... it will just help you deal with it a bit better. And if you do eat natural or organic foods, digestive enzymes will assist in the digestive process enabling your body to assimilate more nutrients from your meal.

Consider that vegetables build the body! Fruits cleanse the body!! And herbs heal the body!
