
The Young Firefighters Association (YFA) is a disciplined youth organisation setup and run by Firefighters & lay instructors at Prestatyn Fire Station.
We meet every Wednesday 18:30 - 20:30hrs
Our aims are –
- To aid personal development.
- To help develop discipline, social conscience and
- community awareness.
- To help develop leadership qualities.
- To develop team skills.
- To promote fire safety in the younger generation.
- To give young people a better understanding of a
- Firefighters role in the community.
A typical night would consist of the following
- 18:30 Bells ring and the Squad line up for inspection
- 18:45 Squad "Fall out" and don Fire kit
- 19:00 The squad are put into crews and detailed on the tasks involved for the night and what's required of them
- 19:10 The "get to work" command is given and that's it, they're off, it could be a B A drill (breathing apparatus) a simulated building fire that involves hauling fire hose aloft into the training tower or a simple rescue involving abseiling 30m down the tower.
- 20:00 The command "Knock off make up" is given, it's time to keep all the equipment and debrief on the nights work
- 20:15 Time to open the tuck shop and have some free time
- 20:30 Home time
