Mrs. Brown's Pre-K

Welcome ! Our classes are off to a great start. All students are getting familiar with "zoo phonics" if your child hasn't shown you, ask them. They know 26 different actions that coincide with the alphabet. Also, our counting has improved so much. We are counting by ones to 30, fives to 50, and tens to 100. Please,  keep praticing the pledge and our three prayers.
We have wrapped up our Sept. apple theme and are fast approaching our October circus theme.  I will post our October news letter, "what our day looks like", and our disciplinary plan under attachments.

Beginning the week of October 5th, we will be talking about our season "fall."Our classes will be taking a short walk and collecting leaves, sorting them by shape and color. Our other topic of conversation will be "fire safety." Teaching students about being aware of your household fire plan, smoke alarms, what not to touch, and practicing stop, drop, and roll.

As for the week of October 12th- first we will celebrate Colombus Day. Then move into our circus activities.

November

2009

Our focus for the month of November will be on “Giving Thanks.” Talking about harvest and focusing on handwriting skills.

Each week, beginning Nov. 9th we will learn one letter. Using the D’Nealian form, students will write both the upper and lower case letters. The handwriting books will stay in the class and at conference time you will get a chance to look at them. Conferences will begin in late January and sign up will be next month. The classes will continue counting and building our number line. Sorting is still a topic. I have started sorting students in a variety of ways. Ask your child about the different ways we sort in class. Also, I am pleased to see many reading calendars have been returned. Keep up the hard work and remember that reading ensures success in the classroom.

It’s November and snow will be fast approaching. Please remember to send your child with a warm coat, hat, gloves, snow boots, and a dry pair of shoes to change into. I would greatly appreciate the change of shoes to be easy for the students to change into.

As for the parent day in the classroom this month will be Nov. 23rd for the 3day classes and Nov. 24th for the 2day classes. We will be having a pumpkin pie harvest party. Parents and siblings are more than welcome to attend. The AM will celebrate around 10:00 and the PM classes around 2:00.

Important Dates **

December

2009

Our classes will be focusing on the “gift of giving” and the birth of Jesus. December is an exciting and busy month.

Academically, classes have been working very hard. Our number line is continuing to grow. This month we will be using our calendar and the number to count backwards. We will also continue our handwriting. This skill is challenging for some. Perfection is not the goal, making an effort (taking a chance) is the key. Both of these skills will improve with practice at school and home. During the week of Dec. 7th classes will be discussing the similarities and differences between 3 different ginger-bread man stories. Ask your child which version they enjoyed most?

As for the parent day in the classroom, come and join us for hot chocolate and a few Christmas songs.

* 3 day AM will perform at 10:00 December 18th

* 3 day PM will perform at 2:00 December 18th

* 2 day classes will perform together at 10:00

   December 17th.

Classes will end after December 18th and will resume on Jan. 4th. Remember to read together and practice handwriting.

v  See you in 2010!
