Not Just Tourists is a non-profit organization providing much needed medical supplies for Cuba and other countries in need.
Plus Que Touristes - Not Just Tourists collects surplus medicines and medical supplies for use in countries with people in need. Canadians travelling on business or vacation deliver these much-needed supplies to doctors and clinics in their travel destinations.
We are a volunteer-based, not-for-profit project, patterned after Not Just Tourists in St. Catharines and Toronto.
After seeing first-hand the serious lack of medicines and medical supplies in Cuba, Dr. Ken Taylor and his wife Denise—from St. Catharines, Ontario—started taking medicines to remote areas in Cuba. Soon others who were traveling to Cuba began approaching them to take medicines, too, and the Not Just Tourists phenomenon started.
The project has grown significantly. In 2003, the St. Catharines group delivered more than 5,000 kilograms of medicine and medical supplies abroad. In 2004, they sent more than 6,000 kilograms.
Prompted by that success, a similar program in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) started up. In 2004 tourists taking suitcases from Not Just Tourists–Toronto delivered more than 1,000 kilograms of medicine and medical supplies abroad. Given the success of these two volunteer groups, other Canadian cities are now developing or considering projects.
