Camp Descriptions

Discovery Camp 1 is for independent, inquisitive students entering grades 1, 2, or 3 in the fall. Daily activities include science experiments, excursions into nature, art, music, creative games, and the development of critical thinking and cooperative learning skills. This week of learning and meeting new friends guarantees no boredom!

Discovery Camp 2 is for curious students entering grades 4, 5, or 6 in the fall. This week will include investigations into aerodynamics, CO2 car building, simple woodworking, creative designing and more! Students will do a variety of experiments and activities both indoors and out. This fast paced camp is based on the middle schools’ MCAS Technology and Engineering learning standards with a whole bunch of fun added.

Art & Science is for students entering grades 2, 3, or 4 in the fall. Are you a creative thinker and maker? This week will be about experimenting with all forms of art media and design. Each day will be filled with hands on arts and crafts with a scientific bent! Origami, paper making, game design and computer art are just the start of this challenging week

Robotics 1 is for students with little or no robotics experience who are entering grades 4 or 5 in the fall. Students will be introduced to the LEGO MINDSTORMS systems for constructing and programming robotic creations. Cooperative groups learn to work together in meeting daily challenges of building and design.

Robotics 2 is for students entering grades 6, 7, or 8 in the fall or with previous experience. The heart of the program is the LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics Invention System, the RCX microcomputer, infrared transmitter, light and touch sensors, motors, and gears. Students will compete with others in “Demolition Derby”, drag races and other amusing design challenges.

Robotics 3 is for students entering grades 6, 7, 8, or 9 in the fall who have previously taken Robotics 2. This extension of previous courses includes more challenging construction of machines to do more difficult tasks!
