Financial Aid Information

2009 PPCHS Parent Financial Aid Night

Financial aid is funds provided to students and families to help pay for postsecondary educational expenses. It can be in the following forms:

 

Grants – $$$ that does not have to be paid back. Usually offered for students who are in financial need.

 

Scholarships – $$$ that does not have to be paid back. Usually offered for some type of merit, skill or some type of characteristic. See the downloads page to see the scholarship bulletin.

 

EmploymentProgram for part-time employment to undergraduate and graduate students, working on or off campus, to help pay for unmet financial needs for higher education.

 

Loans $$$ that is borrowed. Student loans must be paid back upon graduation. Some loans can be deferred until 6 months after graduation. Many loans are low or no-interest.

 
To be considered any type of financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This is to be completed by the parents of 12th grade students between January 1 and March 15th.  Go to www.FAFSA.ed.gov  for the application, worksheets and more information.
 
College Goal Sunday 
                     Saturday, January 31st, 2010
 
This FREE event takes place at  BCC's central campus. It is  a day long event in which you can bring your tax information and get help filing your FAFSA application.
 
 
In addition to the FAFSA, some schools may require the CSS/Financial Aid Profile which is available on www.collegeboard.com  The CSS gives you a comprehensive family data analysis (allows you to "tell your financial story".  There is a $25 initial fee, plus a $16 charge for each college that you send the information to.   There are fee waivers for qualified families.
