Welcome to Kindergarten!

This week our class will begin moving between teachers for the Story Town Step 2 guided reading block.  The students did a practice move on Thursday and will officially begin Tuesday.  During that time students will be working in small group with a teacher on reading skills.  The other children will be working in literacy centers on related skills that they can practice by themselves or with a group.

An exciting addition will be helping us develop reading skills.  We will be joined by Laura Hall our early interventions teacher.  She will be with us 3 to 4 days a week and working with groups of students during Step 2 reading block as well as throughout the day with other reading skills.

Ask your child about reading blocks.  I'm sure they will have a lot to tell you.

We will introduce our first high frequency word this week.  It is I.

Our Rubust Vocabulary includes: ability, confident, reverse, complained, talent, encourage
Please use these words in conversation with your child this week.  They are not expected to memorize them, but to understand them when they are heard.

Our homework will be listed daily on the homework behavior chart in your child's take home folder.  Thank you for making sure to check these daily and discuss the behavior with your child.  Signing them lets me know that you have seen the chart. Please continue to return these in the folder each day.

Continued practice is needed on writing names.  This needs to become easy to do for each child.  We need names on nearly every thing we do all through our lives.

Next week we hope to tie dye our field trip t-shirts.  If your child has not brought one in yet, please send it in by Friday this week.

Well, let's have a good week and don't forget to read with your child every day and write it on the pink Ocean of Fame sheet.  Send those in when they are filled in on one side.  All reading counts not only in the Ocean of Fame but in your child's life too.  Happy Reading!!!
