I think the CRIS postgraduate seminar series has been excellent so far.
It has connected me more strongly with the IT and Engineering HDR community
at Clayton, and I have been surprised by the sheer amount of interesting
research being done here. The fact that the audience contains only fellow
students makes the platform casual and accessible for presenters, and thus
offers an opportunity to students to become more comfortable with discussing
their research. I would like to see the series continue throughout the next
few years.

I want to thank you for arranging and holding the CRIS postgrad seminars. They
are a great chance for me to learn new technologies from others and share my
knowledge and experience in research with others.
I have learnt a lot from the seminars which are held weekly. New ideas came
up when I listened to the others' talks. Thus, the seminar is very helpful
to my research. I think people in this group may have the same feeling as me.
Thank you again for holding this great seminar series!
Zhi Li (Faculty of Engineering)
Thank you all for the effort you have put into organising the postgraduate
seminar series this semester. The event has been both intellectually
stimulating and a great opportunity for meeting with other postgrads and
learning about their research. An important part of our research training
is to learn how to effectively communicate our research to others. The
postgrad seminar series has provided a much needed forum to do this. The
opportunity to practice one's conference talk in a non-threatening environment
is also beneficial.

The CRIS postgrad lunch is a great and distinct opportunity to learn a
variety of knowledge in a sociable meeting. Thanks very much!

Technology)
With a more relaxed atmosphere than standard seminars, the postgrad lunch has
been great. I can come in, sit down and learn what other postgrads are working
on in fields that are outside my own spheres of knowledge. No-one is too afraid
to avoid asking questions or starting a discussion and the speakers get to
practise speaking to a "naive" audience. The most friendly type of
peer review!

Just a note to thank the committee for the efforts and time in organising the
lunch-time seminar. The algorithms frequently used in computer science (e.g.,
neural networks, expert systems, theory of coding) provide me with more ideas in
what to use in my engineering work (statistics and computer vision). Seeing the
link and exchanging ideas during the seminar is really useful. I really hope this
seminar will keep going in the future. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

The weekly postgrad lunch talks have been fantastic in getting students
together to talk about research and more in a very relaxed setting.
First, thanks to the three of you (Fabian, Minh Duc, and Yee Ling) for
doing a tremendous job putting it all together tirelessly week after week.
The talks themselves have given an opportunity for students to share their
research and receive feedback from their peers. More excitingly, it has
also been used by some students as a launchpad for open discussions on
their research topics. While there are venues like seminars and
conferences that allow us to share our completed results on a problem,
there aren't many places where we can initiate discussions on ongoing
(and largely incomplete) research problems. I believe the weekly CRIS
lunch talks have the potential to be a forum that actively encourages and
promotes such discussions, which will contribute towards a healthy
research environment.
