As you would expect in a frontier port town, Obsidian has more than its fair share of inns and taverns, catering to a variety of tastes and vices.
Inns
- First Stop Inn
On the waterfront is a large inn that is often the first place newcomers enter, seeking food and board. It is a simple, reasonably priced inn with ample rooms and generous helpings.
- The Orcs' Nest
A boisterous inn dominanted by orcs who have come to Obsidain to seek their fortune or join up with the army. Non-orcs are tolerated at best, beaten and hauled out more often, and once in a while murdered before they reach the bar .
- Forbidden Love
A inn that is really a brothel, offering both rooms and personal services for those who get lonely. Rumour has it that any sexual vice can be catered to, for the right price. Not surprisingly it is a busy inn, with only a couple of non-employee rooms available at any one time.
Taverns
- Yig's Cavern
An unusual tavern that is in the hollow of a cavern of black glass beneath the docks. Currently under new management after the owner mysteriously vanished. A sign has recently gone up for new hiring of staff.
- Two Pints
A cheap and cheerful tavern, where they sell ale by the pair, for the price of a single pint. Busiest in the evenings after the end of the working day, it is also know to serve the worst food in town.
- The Wand & Goblet
This high-class tavern sits close to the wizards' gentleman's club and caters to those exclusive members. They don't let in any old riff-raff, the prices are high, but the food and wine are excellent. A retired mage runs the bar and is likely to blast anyone causing trouble. Orcs and their kin are not welcome, nor is anyone identified as belonging to the Looters' Guild.
- The Golden Scales
Another expensive and exclusive tavern, this one catering to the merchants of the Alliance and their senior employees. You need to belong to one of the major or minor houses to be even allowed inside.
- Waypoint
A friendlier tavern sits on the road leading out of Obsidian, the last stop before hitting the wilderness and the ruins. It is owned and ran by the Wayfinders and guild members get a discount on drinks. It boasts a map carved into a table that sits in the centre of the room, to which explorers and travellers add locations and features when they return from their ventures into the ruins.
- The Pick & Axe
A dwarven ale-house that sits next to The Forge , the dwarf settlement at the edge of the town. Caters largely to the dwarven population, but will serve anyone other than orcs.
- Fisherman's Friend
A tavern that has a patronage of sailors and fisherman; it is a good place to hear talk of the latest news from the mainland, although it is usually three months out of date.
- Seaview
This tavern sits astride a set of stilts that raises it above the buildings of Obsidian and looks down to the sea. It has an excellent view of the sea, river and the town. The owner is a retired soldier, an ogre who suffered a serious injury while exploring some ruins. He has lost one of his eyes, and walks with a limp. After a recent attack on his tavern, a few heavies now act as bouncers at the door.
- Hector's Winery
This former tavern is now nothing more than a charred ruin, the owner and a few regular patrons having died in the blaze that razed the winery to the ground. No one seems to know what happened, but the Watchers are keeping an eye out for hooded men with strange markings. |
