There are many different ways to filter down the many dozens of schools down to those that interest you. It's not feasible to do an in-depth analysis of every school.
My approach looks something like this: - Eliminate middle schools and high schools from the list of all schools.
- Eliminate schools that are more than a 15 minute drive from my home.
- If there are 1 or 2 schools that are of known interest that may be more than 15 minutes, add those in.
- If necessary, exclude those schools that do not have after-school care.
- Of the schools now on the list, find out 3 to 5 things that make that school unique ("focus on environmental", "Chinese immersion program", etc.)
- Exclude schools that do not seem interesting based on this first round.
- Do in-depth research into the remaining schools, including visits to the school.
