"WHAT'S THE MATH IN THIS?"

Auburn Hills, Michigan, October 6, 2008, — Imagine a captive audience of 200 boys or 200 girls of various ethnic backgrounds, touring a college campus to get a glimpse of their post-secondary educational options, constructing miniature bridges, dialoging with professionals about careers, completing hands-on math challenges with cool math tools, and expressing a newfound excitement about Succeeding with Math!

That's exactly what you will see as P.O.W.E.R. (Presenting Opportunities Winning Effectual Results) Organization hosts its 3rd  Annual Math Mini Career Conferences  "What's the Math in This?" at Baker College of Auburn Hills, 1500 University Drive Saturday, November 8, 2008 (boys only) and Saturday, November 15, 2008 (girls only) 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. There is no cost for participants.  Lunch is included. Pre-registration deadlines:  Boys November 5th and Girls November 12th.

"Our Annual Math Mini-Career Conferences present opportunities for average to low performing students from the metropolitan area to make math connections, improve academic success, and apply the skills gained immediately in their daily lives.  Each event is hosted on a college campus to provide early exposure to post-secondary options in a meaningful way," says P.O.W.E.R. Organization's Founder and Executive Director, LaToniya A. Jones, M.Ed.  This annual event is specifically designed to encourage and provide resources for youth who lack motivation and find math challenging.  Chad Gibbs of Edward Jones shares, "It is a very enlightening experience when the children at the conference realize that the presenters have like backgrounds as them.  This most often makes the children realize that they too can achieve any goal they put their minds to."

P.O.W.E.R. Organization is an educational 501 (c)(3) organization that has empowered more than 1,000 youth  (ages 8-14) and families through its community-based math programs since 2006.
