Collections

The Members of Prince of Peace support many on-going collections to help others in our community, state, and around th world.

Pull Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House

This recycling program benefits the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. Altogether, this is program generated approximately $16,000 in 2008.

To participate, collect pull tabs and drop them off at Prince of Peace. The Human Care Committee takes them to the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City on a regular basis. The last collection was 10 pounds!

The Ronald McDonald House helps children and their families at time of specific need. If you are not familiar with the Iowa City Ronald McDonald Houses, they are a 31- room "home away from home" for families with children receiving critical medical care in Iowa City. For more information, go to www.rmhciowacity.org.

To contribute, pick up a little "house" located in the Fellowship Hall and start collecting  pull tabs. Once your house is filled, place it back where you found it and those tabs will be off to the recycling center!

Iowa City Crisis Center

On an on-going basis, the Members collect canned food and paper products for the Iowa City Crisis Center. The Center specializes in helping people survive emotional and/or material crisis and develop ways to cope. Collections range from canned fruit, vegetables, meat, and soup, pasta, jelly and jam, rice, potato products, juice, diapers, and toilet paper. We are especially good at donating peanut butter! To contribute, place your donations in the bins in the Fellowship Hall. The need is always great.

Boxtops For The Preschool

The Congregation collects General Mills products and Campbell Soup labels for Box Tops 4 Education. The box tops and labels are redeemed to purchase supplies and/or out door play equipment needed for our POP Christian Preschool. To contribute, place collected box tops and labels in the collection container located in the kitchen.

LWML MITES

On the last Sunday of the month, the congregation takes a special offering for LWML MITES. The program is based on the Biblical account ofthe widow's mite, taken from Luke 21: 1-4. Participation is intended to encourage giving for mission work above and beyond the support given to the congregation. Almost 30years ago, Prince of Peace was the recipient of Mite funds when we were a brand new mission congregation in Coralville.

MITE Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund local and national mission grants. Go to the LWML website, www.lwml.org to see how the MITES offering assists others.

To contribute, pickup an empty MITE BOX from above the mailboxes in the back of the church. Place the box someone where at home where you will be reminded to drop in your spare change. On the last Sunday of the month, bring the box to worship where it will be collected. On your way out, don't forget to take an empty one home with you.
