Did you know? Lascaux Cave is a cave in France that contains prehistoric murals. The cave was uncovered in 1940 by four adventurous, and revealed murals of animals, mostly bulls and horses from 17,000 years ago. The paintings were probably used for worship and ceremonies. The original cave cannot be visited for fear of the damage that may be caused to it. However, there is a replica of the works in a twin cave, called Lascaux 2.

Did you know? Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519) was a famous Italian painter, one of the greatest Renaissance artists. Da Vinci was born the fruit of forbidden love between a wealthy notary and a simple farmer woman. In his early years, he lived with his mother and later moved to his father's family. Da Vinci was a man of infinite curiosity, engaged in the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, engineering, aviation, optics, mathematics, anatomy, and music. The most famous of his works is the Mona Lisa (1503 - 1519). Among his familiar works are the Virgin of the Rocks and The Last Supper. Leonardo da Vinci left behind thousands of manuscripts and notebooks, most of them written in mirror script. These present a huge variety of areas of interest and occupation and include thoughts, engineering inventions, drawings, and sketches for paintings.

Did you know? Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849) was a well-known Japanese painter. He specialized in Chinese painting and is known in the West for his series of prints, known as the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. Most of his recognized works were created after he was around 60 years old. The name "Manga", which refers to Japanese comic art, is attributed to Hokusai, who gave the name "Hokusai Manga" to a collection of sketches he painted. In 1839 his studio with most of his works was burned down, but nevertheless, Hokusai continued to paint until the end of his life. During his career, he created thousands of paintings but is most known for the landscape paintings he painted, which left their mark on world art.
