The UCD School of Politics and International Relations (SPIRe) is pleased to invite applications for SPIRe PhD scholarships. These scholarships are available to any student commencing their PhD in SPIRe in September 2012 or January 2013. The scholarships will cover fees up to a maximum of €5,200 per year, renewable for a total of two years, in return for one hour of teaching per week in the first year and three hours per week in the second year. The Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Limerick invites applications for a PhD Scholarship in Political Theory. Applications are sought from candidates interested in pursuing research in normative political theory/philosophy. Applications are especially welcome from candidates who wish to work on topics related to global justice, minority rights, toleration, and citizenship. This scholarship will pay for tuition fees for up to three years, and provide a maintenance grant of €4000 in the first year, which may be renewable subject to academic performance and budgetary constraints. University College Dublin is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in the School of Politics and International Relations. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the School’s teaching programmes and engage in research in some aspect of normative political theory. The Trinity Long Room Hub intends to award a number of stipendiary
and non-stipendiary fellowships for the academic year 2011-2012 in the
arts and humanities at Trinity College Dublin. These vary from one to six months. Applicants for a fellowship should demonstrate how they would spend their time working one or more of the many rich collections within the Library, and/or collaborating with named individuals or groups of individuals within one or more of the constituent departments, schools or research centres linked to the Hub. Applications are welcome from across the entire range of arts and humanities research. The funding for these Visiting Research Fellowships has been provided by the UK Alumni of Trinity College Dublin. As such, at least one of the long-term stipendiary fellowships will be reserved for a British citizen or a long-term resident of the UK (three years or more) who is not a British citizen.

A full time temporary position of Researcher for the FP7 funded ACCEPT project in the UCD School of Politics and International Relations. This project, jointly carried on with researchers in fifteen European countries, aims to explore and understand tolerance in these societies, analysing the kinds of tolerance, the conflicts and disagreements with regard to cultural diversity that arise in European societies today, and the institutional arrangements and practices addressing it. It aims to determine the policies and practices of tolerance that need to be developed, and to formulate key messages for European and national policy makers, civil society organisations and minority groups. The researcher will work with Dr Iseult Honohan,the UCD partner in the project, and will engage in research and project administration, including desk research and interviewing, organisation of meetings, and liaison with the project partners, policy makers and other stakeholders. The successful candidate is likely to have at least a Masters level degree in Politics or a social science, or in a cognate subject (History, philosophy); excellent research, writing, editing and management skills; some experience of carrying out qualitative research., including interviewing and analysis of interviews. This is a new post, resulting from the joint decision of the College, the Faculty, and the School to enhance the teaching and research profile of the Department of Philosophy as part of the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy and with strong connections to the Humanities. The post is introduced in close connection with the recent appointment of Professor Peter Simons as Chair in Philosophy (established in 1837). The area of specialization is open. The Department of Philosophy does however consider it desirable to enhance their teaching in the area of Practical Philosophy (Ethics and/or Political Philosophy), so applicants who can offer teaching or teaching and research in that area are encouraged.
