LOCOMOTIONS SQUARE DANCE CLUB
DURAND, MICHIGAN

The LOCOMOTIONS have been square and round dancing in the "railroad town" of Durand, MI (between Flint and Lansing) since our birth-of-a-club dance in 1975!  We're an active, people-loving group.  Guest dancers and spectators are always welcome - and banner steals are encouraged.  We would like to invite YOU to join us for an evening of fun, fellowship, refreshments, and lots of great dancing!

Starting in September 2009, we'll be dancing at the Robert Kerr Elementary School in Durand from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Fridays in Sept., Oct., Jan., Feb., and March.  We'll dance 2nd Friday only in Nov., Dec., and May.   In April, we'll be dancing the 4th Friday.

Robert Kerr Elementary School is located at 9591 E. Monroe St., Durand, MI 48429.  Travel directions:  Exit #118 off I-69.  Go east one mile on Lansing Road.  Turn right onto Saginaw St.  Go 1/2 mile to traffic light.  Turn left onto Monroe St.  Proceed 4/10 mile to Robert Kerr School (on left side of street).

Our club caller is Jim Davis and cuer is Beth Davis (jdavis3422@charter.net).   Beth cues pre-rounds from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m.  At 7:30, it's squre dance time with Jim (plus dancing and mainstream tips).  We alternate squares and rounds throughout the evening.

As a bit of history, Locomotions callers throughout the years were:  Our original caller, Ken & Elaine Fellows, followed by Lowell & Barb Fisher, Mike & Char Rock, and Jim & Beth Davis.  Jim and Beth hold the record - they've been our leaders for 18 years!   Thanks, Jim and Beth!

Our 2009/2010 dance season is well underway!   Thanks to all who attended our two dances in September.

Oct. 9, 2009 is our "34th Anniversary" dance.  We hope you'll come and share our memories and help create new ones!

Ghosts and goblins will be in Durand  on Oct. 23, 2009 for our "Halloween Colors" dance.  We can guarantee you'll see some strange characters at this dance.   (Costumes optional)    Come on out for Halloween treats and fun dancing!

The Locomotions only have one dance in November.   Our "Stars and Stripes" dance is Nov. 13 (second Friday).   Jim always has a nice selection of patriotic square dances for your enjoyment, in honor of Veterans' Day.

Also, we will only be dancing once in December.   Our "Snowball Cookie Roll" dance will be Dec. 11 (second Friday).  This is cookie recipe exchange night, so bring your favorite recipe(s) to share, if you wish, and take home some new recipes.   Of course, we'll have lots of cookies for your eating enjoyment!

  DO YOU NEED CLASSES?

Perhaps you don't know how to square dance?   Or maybe you're feeling a little rusty?    No problem.....

Jim Davis teaches year-round square and round dance classes at the Swartz Creek Area Senior Center, 8095 Civic Drive, Swartz Creek, MI every Monday evening.  (Beginner round dancing at 5:00 p.m.; Beginner squares at 6:00 p.m.; and Plus dancing at 7:30 p.m.)    Sometimes the program leans toward the basic level and sometimes it leans toward the plus /DBD level - depending on the dancers who attend each evening.

Classes are FREE!!  Dress is casual.  When the beginning students progress to a certain point in the classes, they're invited to attend a Durand Locomotions club dance (no charge) and Jim calls a tip at their level.  They enjoy meeting and interacting with the club members and get a taste of club dancing.

This is an enthusiastic, fun group.  If you're 50 +, drop by any Monday evening and check it out!  You'll usually find three or four squares of dancers having a wonderful time in the cozy atmosphere of the Senior Center!
