San Miguel de Allende, Mexico: Lovely New Casita for Rent
A nicely appointed little house in a pleasant Mexican neighborhood

Casita Amistad (Friendship House) is located in San Miguel de Allende high in the mountains of central Mexico about 4 hours drive northwest of Mexico City or 1 and a half hours from Leon.  San Miguel was declared a national historic monument in the 1920s because Mexico’s independence struggle from Spain began here and thus its wonderful colonial character is preserved.  It is an international center for the arts and attracts visitors from around the world.  The climate is mild all year round at 6400 feet above sea level and it has 330 days of sunshine each year permitting San Miguel's 80,000 inhabitants to enjoy outside activities, numerous festivals, and a relaxed lifestyle.

The old city, the climate, the lively modern and traditional arts communities, the long-term cooperative relationship between local and foreign residents, the wonderful people and their celebratory lifestyle, the markets and food, and the nearby opportunities for adventure travel make San Miguel a special place to visit.

The casita is attached to the main house at the front.  It includes a full kitchen/dining/living area on the ground floor, a bedroom (king sized bed) with its own bathroom on the 2nd floor, a ground floor sitting area in the front garden, and a small private terrace area with a beautiful view of San Miguel on the roof.  The floors are reached with a spiral staircase that runs from kitchen to roof terrace.  This stairway  is typical of San Miguel homes and is not recommended for those who have difficulty walking or using stairs.

The Casita has good amenities:  High-Speed wireless Internet, cable TV; cleaning service 2 times per week or more by arrangement; laundry service;  microwave;  ceiling fans in each room; new appliances; comfortable furniture; and a large solar hot water system with back up that provides plenty of hot water for all.

Amistad is located in the district of San Rafael about 20 minutes walk from the Jardin (Garden Park) in the city’s historic center.  San Rafael is a traditional working class Mexican neighborhood where you will find small grocery stores, a kindergarten, family businesses, lots of children playing on the cobblestone streets, and Mexican neighbors going about the daily tasks of living.  People are nice, few speak English, and your neighbors will help you learn Spanish quickly.

Rental: Casita Amistad is available for rent as follows: $200/week; $525/month; $500/month (4-12 months) and $475/month long-term (more than 1 year). A 5% tax is now levied by SMA's city government and will be added to rental fees.  Rent includes all utilities and light cleaning 2 times per week.  Renters are asked to tip the housekeeper at 75 Pesos per week per person staying at the casita.    Please contact me about last minute rentals.  If the Casita is unoccupied, you will receive a 15% discount for short term rental.

Pets: Few rentals in San Miguel permit pets because of potential damage, odors, and allergies suffered by subsequent guests.  I have a much beloved yellow Labrador and am willing to consider a pet living in the casita.  The guidelines are as follows: your pet is well mannered, quiet, trained in obediance and toilet habits, and happy to be an inside animal.  The casita does not have access to the main house gardens, so that means walking a dog on nearby streets or in close-by fields.  If you bring a pet, an additional one month damage deposit is requested.  All deposits are fully refundable upon departure if no damage has occured.
