In preparation for my transition to ripe old age, I promised myself a birthday present. I would purchase a small sailboat and take my 50th year off from all employment. I would use this sabbatical year to sail wherever the spirit, wind, currents, my car, my trailer, and Murphy would dictate. I wanted to sail in the Mid-West's many lakes as well as the northern Great Lakes, The Chesapeake Bay, and the Florida Keys. I had even considered crossing the Gulf Stream and sailing into the Bahamas. My dream was a boat large enough to be comfortable and sail anywhere in the World - but reality suggested starting with a boat that was small enough to trailer to anywhere in the United States. Having set my goals, I started out on a one year adventure of reading and research that culminated in the purchase of "Solar Wind", my 1990 Com-Pac 19. The Trailer Sailor section is my story - from the start of the search for the "perfect boat" in 1997 to my Florida voyages in a Com-Pac 19 during 1998. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed in the things that
you didn't do than in the ones you did do. |
