During 1998, I gave myself a birthday present of one year off for bad behavior. I used this time period to put all work related activities on hold and make sailing my full time job. I have sailed on the Mississippi River, The Chesapeake Bay, and three wonderful weeks in the Florida Keys with my Com-Pac 19 named "Solar Wind". Now, after spending 1999 in the working world again, I have planned a much more extensive cruising itinerary to celebrate the new millennium and beyond. I plan to cruise for several months at a time and so I have selected a different boat. Moving up to a bigger boat entails solving many issues other than just the financial implications. I still wanted to limit myself to the smallest boat possible for the desired destinations. My guiding principles were that small is beautiful, simple is better, and less is more. As many others have said, a small boat and a suitcase full of money is much better than a 40 footer tied to The Bank. As a result, in February of 2000, I purchased a 1989 Pacific Seacraft Flicka 20 that has also been named "Solar Wind". Solar Wind served me well for several years but - Life Happens
- and the story continues. Solar Wind is mine no longer having been
heavily damaged during Hurricane Michelle. I was with out a boat for
several months but have now acquired a 2002 Com-Pac 16 which I have
named "Plan B" and expect to use on some local lakes for the next few
years while I once again divide my time between occasional sailing and
the working world.
