The Department of Labour Economics, Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing, China The Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing, was established in 1956 and has developed in the intervening years as a key university within Beijing Municipality. It presents a comprehensive offering of business and economics options to its 19,000 registered students, including more than 1,000 post-graduates, on its two Beijing campuses. It has a strong research tradition, with 26 separate research institutes within the university. The School of Labour Economics (SLE) is one of its key departments –indeed until 1984, was the only university department specialising in labour economics in China and authorised to offer post-graduate qualifications in the subject. It maintains a leading position in the field, being recognised alongside the Department of Labour and Personnel at Renmin University, Beijing as one of the two leading centres for research and teaching in the field of labour studies. Yang Heqing, the Dean of the School of Labour Economics, is the chief research fellow, specialising in employment and human resource development –he currently presides over a school with 44 teaching and research faculty members and has, on frequent occasions demonstrated his interest in establishing links with the China Centre and Northampton Business School and engaging in joint projects. |
