Learning about how owning a home can improve your life and how to take care of that home. Residential living options will be explored but most activities and information will focus on single family residents. Students will better understand what type of tasks home ownership entails and how to preform yearly maintenance and improvements to the their future homes. If you think it would be good to learn how to fasten wall members together, wire up a outlet or connect plumbing supply lines than join this course.
What you would see in the classroom...
Most of the activities take place in our school's woods room which is outfited with a construction frendly lab area. Students will be working with a small group to build things like a home workbench. Sometimes they will be with another person learning how to do tasks like fix drywall. Hands-on activities for understanding how to layout framing are also done individually.
Who this class is for...
Anyone who plans to live in and or own a home. This class can help you understand how to do simple around the house tasks and fixes that can save you money. Having practiced items in class students will be able to understand if they should hire a job done or attempt to do it.

Intended for: All students
Student will be introduced to the fundamentals of residential buildings. They will study houses and their subsystems in order to obtain a better understanding of their home. Scaled construction projects, home maintenance hands-on activities, and written curriculum will be used to explore the world of residential living. Construction safety will be taught throughout each unit. Communication skills and teamwork will be emphasized.
