Dr. Gokhale
Dr Shishir Gokhale acquired MBBS degree from MGM
Medical College Indore in 1977, and MD (Medical Microbiology) from Armed Forces
Medical College,
Pune. He had a long inning as a Pathologist and Microbiologist in the Indian
Army Medical Corps. He has been a Reader in the Dept of Microbiology, AFMC Pune
and has served in many Service Hospitals all over India. He has been the spearhead in
setting up the laboratory services at remote places on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and established a state of art laboratory
for the GB Pant Hospital at Port Blair. He was Director of Blue Peter Research
Center, Hyderabad
before joining Manipal group. He established an international medical school, KMC International
Center, at Manipal and
served as Professor in Microbiology and Dean before taking up the present
appointment at MCOMS. His keen interest
in teaching and research has led to numerous publications and calls as guest
speaker. He has won Australian
Government’s internationally competitive merit based scholarship program, the prestigious
international Endeavour Executive Award for 2008. Under this award he undertook
a project to study the Australian medical education system. He completed this
project at the Faculty of Medicine, University
of New South Wales, Australia.
His other interests are creative writings,
music, travel, environmental protection, dogs and snooker.
