September 17, 2008: The much awaited biannual event of the year was here again and this time we call it AMIGO v.08. Indeed the students of the Deep Campus, MCOMS came up with a unanimously approved theme of Amigo ….. signifying friendship … friendship between the new students of the February and August 2008 batches and the students who have felt the air in the field of medicine for sometime now.
The event kept to its tradition by beginning with a cultural dance which was followed by a number of well coordinated and choreographed dances and almost professional singing and poetry by the students of the first , second and third semester . The dances performed included regional dance forms from Srilanka, Nepal, India and also a fusion dance; thus breaking the geographical barrier of friendship. The performances lasted for about an hour which was followed by encouraging speech by Dr S Gokhale, Director, Basic Sciences, MCOMS and Dr B M Nagpal, Dean, MCOMS. The Director and Dean having been impressed by quality of performances promised the students to send the best teams in every field (curricular and co-curricular) of our college to compete at Manipal Utsav, the annual fest organized by Manipal University. This added yet another feather in the hat of success of the event. The Dean’s speech was followed by dinner for the teachers and students, and then a refreshing dance party which went on till midnight.
It was truly an amalgamation of The Occident and The Orient which overcame all barriers to welcome new students, new friends … the administration and faculty encouraged the new comers, and the seniors guided them whereas they themselves showcased their latent talents. Having witnessed the equals of Hrithik Roshan, Lata Mangeshkar, Green Day, Farhan Akhtar and others; the programme promised to be back in a much bigger bang at AMIGO v.09 … till then Adios Amigos ……
