Yi Zhao was born in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, in November 1981. He grew up in the North China Plain, which "formed the cradle of Chinese civilization". Yi Zhao went to Shijiazhuang Airport Road Elementary School from 1988 to 1994, and Shijiazhuang 2nd Middle School from 1994 to 2000, after which he was admitted by Department of Physics, Peking University in 2000. He received his B. Sc. degree in 2004, then pursued his graduate study in Department of Physics, University of Toronto supervised by Prof. Hoi-Kwong Lo. He received his M. Sc. degree and Ph. D. degrees in 2005 and 2009, respectively. In 2009, Yi Zhao joined California Institute of Technology as an NSERC post-doc fellow in the Quantum Optics group, supervised by Prof. H. J. Kimble. |
