Peels are an excellent way to restore a healthy, youthful appearance to the skin by eliminating dead cells to result in clarity, luminosity, and improvement of such concerns as uneven pigmentation, fine lines, and certain forms of acne and acne scarring. Peels consist of a thorough cleansing of the skin, followed by the application of the peel solution. During the peel, the bonds between the dead surface skin cells are dissolved, revealing the fresher skin just beneath the surface of the treated areas.
With milder peels such as Enzyme Peels and Acid Peels, there may be no actual peeling, or only slight flaking in the days following the treatment. With Intensive Peels, especially Chemical Peels, it is likely that some or all of the surface skin will detach and peel away over the 5-7 days following the peel.
Most Peels will produce an active, warming or "dancing" sensation on the skin, and once the solution has been fully applied, you may hold a fan to reduce any discomfort felt during the peel.
For all peels at The Skin Studio, post-treatment guidelines are reviewed, and should be carefully followed to ensure the best results, and avoid complications. In general, aerobic exercise or vigorous physical activity should be avoided for the first forty-eight hours, scratching or picking the treated skin should be avoided, and all UV exposure, including sun or sunbed exposure, is to be completely avoided. Sunscreen with an SPF of at least fifteen should become a part of daily skin care regimen as your skin will become more sensitive to the sun as a result of the peel.
