Note: High school swimming includes all high school swim teams across Nebraska and is not divided into classes (such as A, B, C, and D). All swimmers compete against each other regardless of the school size. 24 swimmers with the top automatic and secondary times in Nebraska qualify for the Nebraska State High School Swimming Championship. At State, the top 12 swimmers of the pre-lims swam on Friday qualify for finals on Saturday. The top 6 swimmers of finals swam on Saturday receive medals. Swimmers are only allowed to swim 4 events at State.  Of those 4 events, only 2 of them may be individual. If a swimmer qualifies for 2 individual events & 3 relays and swims all 2 of their individual events, an alternate swims in his/her place in one of the relays so that the maximum of 4 events is not exceeded. Although 4 relay members qualify a team for placement at State, 8 swimmers are listed as the team and any of the 8 may swim the relay the day of the competition based upon the coach’s decision.
