Code Of Conduct

ABSENCES: Please text me (402)802-1626 or email me (cindy.nash@piusx.net) as soon as you know you are going to be absent. Divers should contact Coach Heyen.  Let us know why you are going to be absent (you are sick; you have something else to do).  Depending on the reason for the absence will depend on whether the absence is excused or not.  Being sick is considered excused absences; missing due to homework is not.  More than two absences could affect your ability to letter.

            CONSEQUENCES:

1.       NO CALL/NO SHOW: The first no call/no show you are suspended from the next meet.  The next no call/no show and you are kicked off the team.

2.      UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: The first unexcused absence and you sit out the next meet.  The second unexcused absence and you sit out the next two meets.  The third and you are kicked off the team.

You should only concern yourself with your own absences.  Coach Bach, Coach Heyen and Coach Nash will determine if the absence is unexcused or not or if there are extenuating circumstances that would apply.  But that will be between the coaches and that individual swimmer.

TIME MANAGEMENT:  Due to our practice schedule, it is very important to manage your time effectively.  Homework should be done before you come to practice so you are not staying up to late at night doing it.  Also, when we have meets, you should be doing it on the bus on the way there.  When I swam, I usually did it during diving or the 500.  It can be done.

            CONSEQUENCES:

It could result in an unexcused absent.

PUNCTUALITY:  We are limited in the amount of time we have for the pool.  The start time is the time you are in the pool or on the mats ready for dryland.  It isn’t when you come out of the locker room.

            CONSEQUENCES:

1.      For every minute you are late, you will need to do 1 “LAP OF DREAD”.  This will either be at the end of practice that night or before practice the next night.  If you miss being early the next night, you will be suspended from the next meet.

2.      Too many unexcused tardies will result in being suspended from a meet.

POOL RULES:

Water Bottles:  You will not be able to get out of the pool during a set to get a    drink.  Make sure you bring water bottles.

Equipment: You are responsible to bring all your equipment to each practice.

Restroom Breaks:  You will not be able to get out of the pool in the middle of a set in order to go to the bathroom.  Make sure you go before you get in to start practice.  If you need to go during the workout, hop out as soon as you are done with a set and get back in before the next set starts.

Stopping: You should not be stopping in the middle of the lane, or at all during the set.  If you need to stop, make sure that you get out of the way of the other swimmers.  You should only stop at the wall and then you need to get into the corner.  This also goes when you finish a set; Make sure to get out of the way of those coming in so that they can finish to the wall.

Flip turns:  Everybody should be doing flip turns at every wall when doing freestyle and backstroke.  If you can’t do a flip turn, please talk to Coach
Bach or Coach Nash so we can work on them.  There will be consequences for not doing flip turns.

Passing: If you are going faster than the person in front of you, you will need to pass them.  You should be able to accomplish this by swimming over the underwater line.  There is enough space in a line to swim three abreast for a little bit.  If you are the one being passed, it is your responsibility to wait at the wall until they are far enough ahead of you.

Caps:  You should not be missing a set to fix your cap.  If you can adjust your cap and make your send off, that is okay.  Otherwise you will have to swim the way it is.  If it falls off during a set, then it falls off.  There will be consequences for missing laps to adjust your cap.

Goggles: Same goes for goggles.  Your goggles should be adjusted before you start swimming.  You should not stop swimming to adjust your goggles.  Learn to swim that way.  It could happen at a meet, and you can’t stop swimming to adjust them.  There will be consequences for missing laps to adjust your goggles.

            CONSEQUENCES:

Not following the above rules or general other attitude issues will result in doing a certain number of “LAPS OF DREADS”.  This will be determined by the coach at the time of infraction.  Any argument on the number of laps will automatically add 5 laps to the total number

LAP OF DREAD:

This will consist of making on full lap of the pool.  You will do lunges from on corner to the next.  At each corner you will stop and do the following:

                        1st Corner:  20 push outs (?)

                        2nd Corner:  15 Pushups

                        3rd Corner:  25 Sit-ups

                        4th Corner: 20 streamline jumps.

You must count each one loud enough so that one of the coaches can hear you.

MEETS:

Bus: On the bus, we will separate boys and girls.  Do to the number of swimmers we have, everybody will have to sit two to a seat.  In the past, we have had a problem with trash.  This year you will not be allowed off the bus until the area around you is clean.  If we have a big problem, we will start to assign seats.  If we need to yell at you too much on the bus, you will need to sit by the coaches for the next couple of meets.   Captains will be responsible for the conduct of players on the bus.

Cheering: It is very important to cheer on your teammates during races.  If you do not have a race coming up, you should be down at the end cheering them on.  Captains will be responsible for making sure every swimmer has at least one cheerleader when at all possible.

Behavior: At invites, the coaches can’t be around to keep track of the swimmers as we are on deck.  You need to make sure that your behavior reflects a good outlook for Pius.  You also need to make sure you pick up after yourself.  We should not leave trash and other things around our area.  Captains will be responsible for making sure the area around our camp is litter free and nothing is left behind.  If they know who hasn’t cleaned up after themselves, they will let the coaches know and those people will have consequences at the next practice.

After Meets: We are just going home on a dark bus.  You were just make-up less for at least three hours; you don’t need make-up on to ride home.  We see each other at our worst, before showers, three mornings a week.  You don’t have to look your best to go home at night.  You will have fifteen minutes after the last event to get on the bus.  For every minute after fifteen that it takes you, you will be doing 50x that many crunches the next Monday at practice.  The rest of the team will be counting and cheering you on.
