ⲡⲓⲗⲉⲝⲓⲕⲟⲛ ⲛ̀ϩⲁⲛⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲙ̀ⲃⲉⲣⲓ

This is a small collection of Coptic words and expressions that I have used in ⲡⲓⲙⲁ ⲛ̀ϯⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉⲙⲛ̀ⲭⲏⲙⲓ that do not already exist. These are mostly words for concepts invented after the disappearance of the language such as those to do with computers and the internet. Since there is no standard vocabulary for such words, these are my own neologisms.

ⲁⲣⲓⲱϥⲓ v. imp. = ⲁⲣⲓ- v. imp. 'to do' + ⲱϥⲓ v. inf. 'press' = click (link)

ⲗⲱⲟⲩ n. m. ‘link’ = (web) link

ⲙⲁⲛ̀ⲛⲁⲧ n. m. = ⲙⲁ n. m. ‘place’ + ⲛ̀̀ gen. ‘of’ + ⲛⲁⲧ n. m. ‘web’ = website

ⲟⲩⲧⲉϣⲛⲉ (abbreviated ϣⲛⲉ) n. m. = ⲟⲩⲧⲉ- prep. ‘between’ + ϣⲛⲉ n. m. ‘net’ = internet

ϩⲟ ⲛ̀ⲛⲁⲧ (abbreviated ϩⲟ) = ϩⲟ n. m. 'face, page1' + ⲛ̀ gen. 'of' + ⲛⲁⲧ n. m. 'web' = webpage

Notes

1. The usage of
ϩⲟ to mean 'page' is derived from a book by Monir Barsoum called ϣⲉ ⲛ̀ϩⲟ ⲉⲑⲃⲏⲧⲕ = One Hundred Pages For You (Cairo: 1961).
