Pastoral

UK

To date we have been unsuccessful in securing any support for the pastoral work of Life & Light in the UK among the Gypsies. In Life & Light we have many good men who are putting their heart and soul into caring for the many 'sheep' both here (and abroad) at their own expense and in their own time. There are also some flocks who have no shepherd, such as those at Pontypool in South Wales. Please consider their need, and contact us if you can help!

This year, however, the trustees decided to start praying for a Bible college (see the teaching pages) but it must also be part of an active fellowship/church, therefore it may be considered to be a pastoral concern. If you are interested to see how that would work (most denominations separate academic establishments) see the teaching pages.

The Romanian Children's Home

This home has been running for many years through GATIEF, part of Vie et Lumiere/Life & Light. It is home to many children, not all of whom are Gypsies. They are not only fed and clothed, but educated, especially about the Lord, and have very good medical attention. In August 2008 PBS gave GATIEF £250 for the home, and then Sandbach Church held a sponsored haircut on their mission and raised a further £900. More can be seen in the GATIEF reports on the Gypsy Gospel Blogspot.

Serbia: the Church in a Tent

Members of Life & Light at Newton Le Willows decided to support Selim Alijevic, the pastor of the largest Gypsy church in Serbia. He was brought up as a Moslem but heard about Jesus when he was a child and turned to him for salvation. He was rejected by his family but kept his faith. He came to England to train at the International Bible Training Institute at Burgess Hill (www.ibti.org.uk) and chose to return to Serbia even though he had the opportunity to stay here. He has since seen the growth of a church that is numbered around 2000, with outreaches beyond. The local council refuse them permission to build a church (racism is normal) so they have their meetings in a tent which they have had up for so long that they have lined it with wood! We are collecting a couple of hundred pounds each month to send him.
