Pilates is a unique form of exercise that addresses postural habits and develops body awareness to achieve stability, flexibility and ease of movement in the spine and joints. The method combines deep abdominal and core stability work with flowing strengthening and stretching of the whole musculature to re-educate the body to function more comfortably and efficiently during exercise and day-to-day life. Pilates can improve strength, flexibility, muscle control and tone and help rehabilitation from injury or illness. As a mind-body method for the body in motion, it can also greatly improve posture and coordination, relieve stress and create a general sense of wellbeing, both physically and emotionally.
Melanie Noble - Pilates Foundation teacher
Melanie trained and worked as a contemporary dancer in the UK and Europe and was introduced to Pilates as a complementary body conditioning programme to her dance practice. After an illness which interrupted her dance career, she found Pilates invaluable in regaining her energy level and former strength, and retrained as a Pilates matwork teacher with the Pilates Foundation at The Place. She went on to complete her Pilates equipment training with Dominique Jansen at Pilates off the Square to become a fully qualified Pilates Foundation teacher. Having always been fascinated by the body in motion and enjoying a sense of physical freedom in dancing, Melanie aims to encourage her clients to discover a greater awareness of their bodies so that they may find a similar sense of strength and physical vitality in their everyday lives. |
