You receive them constantly, especiall if you operate lots of photo programs like I do. This article is mostly about paying close attention to Adobe upgrades or other "freebies" offered by software manufaeturers.
The Adobe upgrade process
There are some things that you find online that can only be opened by Adobe. This was something that was always confusing to me, but as long as you have it on your computer, you may not even notice.
There are times when some information on the web is in the form of a PDF file, and when that happens, you have to have Adobe to open that document. The great thing about it is that it is free, and when there is a new Adobe upgrade, your computer will automatically detect, upload, and install it for you.
Just recently an Adobe upgrade was available, and though I wasn’t paying any attention, my computer was. It asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the newest version, and after clicking ‘ok’ it took care of everything for me. This particular Adobe upgrade only took a moment to complete on my cable connection, but I don’t think it was very large.
Adobe upgrades and Internet connection time
Those with dial up might have to put up with some inconvenience with an upgrade, but there are many times when you need Adobe, so the wait is worth it.
Photoshop and Adobe PhotoDeluxetm
If you use Photoshop or PhotoDeluxe, you may have another type of Adobe upgrade to worry about, and these will not be free. I had to upgrade mine when I installed XP, as the version I has was not compatible.
I loved the software as it was, so I never thought about going out to buy a newer version. Luckily for us, we found a patch that fixed the problem, and my husband eventually found an Adobe upgrade that was free. We have not had any problems with it since that time. Normally, when you get an upgrade like that it will cost you.
Buying upgrades for Adobe products
When you need an Adobe upgrade that is not free to you, you can either do it online or you can buy the upgrade in the store. Getting it online is probably the most convenient way to do so, but you might save a few dollars if you buy in a software store. If it is a costly Adobe upgrade, you want to make sure you get the best deal you can get.
There is an advantage to getting the upgrade in the store. When you do this you have the CD in your possession if you have a problem or need to reinstall. If you've ever experienced a hard drive crash, you can really appreciate this. |
