Hiking on your Own?

Here are some trails that we considered but couldn't do.

Georgia State Parks Interactive Map... shows where parks are in Georgia... if you click on the spot it will take you to a webpage describing park with maps.

Alabama State Parks Interactive Map... shows where parks are in Alabama... click on spot and it will take you to webpage with descriptions.

Middle/South Georgia:

1)  Pine Mountain at F.D. Roosevelt State Park was decided against because a portion of the trail will be affected by a state approved "controled burning." BUT it looks like it would be a great trail to hike some other month.  Here is the trail map.

Providence Canyon Map and Hike Descriptions (does have a 7 mile backcountry trail that is not noted on the main information page)

3)     Mistletoe State Park (also has a permanent orienteering course)

North Georgia:

        Cloudland Hiking Info

2)      Blackrock Mountain

3)      Fort Mountain

Alabama:

Alabama State Park Information page with description chart of their hiking trails with links.

1)    Oak Mountain State Park (3 backpacking sites with no more than 8 persons per site).

Some Things to consider in choosing a hike...

Driving Distance from Roswell Area

Length of Trail (See Hiking/Backpacking web page, click on the trail maps to get an idea of the number of hiking miles of the your other hikes... but remember... February is your First training Overnight Hike)

Remember that it is the Month of February... that means it will be cold

Difficulty Rating of Hike... (i.e. Easy, Moderate, Difficult)

Does the Park offer Backcountry/Backpacking campsites? (Not all parks have backcountry camp sites)
