Hemitrichia calyculata

Hemitrichia calyculata  Observe the upper whitish portion representing the petaloid margin of the calyculus.

The presence of cogs, half rings and probably other ornamentation in the capillitium is one of the important characteristics which lead to the identification of this specimen as a species of Arcyria.
The firm attachment of the capillitium to the calyculus is also one of the characteristics which supports the Arcyria species.

Observe the venulose, whitish calcareous spread of the hypothalli in a dead leaf, characteristics of Diachea species. The brown "dots" represent the sporangia usually the top most portions can be seen as to the angle it was photographed.

Once the peridium has been removed , the capillitium of the various stalks of Stemonitis tend to aggregate forming this strange apperance.

Thanks to the National Seed Quality Control Services, BPI, Region VI for their facilities in photography.
