My definition of Integrity is summed up in 3 words "HONOURING MY WORD"
"HONOURING MY WORD"
1. Doing what you said you would do, and doing it on time.
2. Doing what you know to do, doing it as it was meant to be done, and doing it on time.
3. Doing what others would expect you to do, even if you haven’t said you would do it, and doing it on time.
4. Whenever you will not be doing any of the above, saying so, as soon as you realise you won’t be doing it, or won’t be doing it on time, and saying if you will do it, and by when, or saying you won’t be doing it at all.
5. Dealing with the consequence of your not doing it on time, or not doing it at all, for all those who are impacted by your not doing it on time, or not doing it at all.
I have always been a person of Integrity and I never understood why I seemed to have different views on this subject than others. It is so strong with me that it directs me everyday in my activities..ie
(1) I am never late to an appointment!.. and if perchance I am going to be late I will always contact the person to advise I will be late (even if it is by only 1 minute!)
(2) I won’t give any commitment to an agreement unless I am sure I can keep it!
(3) I get very upset sometimes when people don’t keep their agreement with me!
This “strong point” is with me everyday in my personal as well as business life. I used to be concerned about it, but now I see that it is a great asset to my way of living. I am courteous to my fellow human being, I show respect to everybody, I would never rob anyone or take what is not mine and at the end of the day I always feel that I have accomplished something if I have controlled my emotions when someone doesn’t keep an agreement or something similar.
