"I shaved my head for kids' cancer with the soccer team.  We thought this would be fun because it is a great cause to raise money for and it was a good time to build team chemistry.  We worked very hard to raise money.  Our soccer team even formed teams within the team for a little competition.  We even walked door-to-door on Bloomfield Ave and raised over $1,000.  My team and I were very excited and proud to find out that we raised almost $30,000!! We take pride in walking around bald now and we know that we helped cure cancer and probably saved many lives."

"Two summers ago my hair was very long and wavy.  I asked my mom if I could get my hair cut short and donate it to Locks of Love.  We went to the hairdresser, and she put my long hair into a ponytail and cut it all off.  Then she sent my hair to Locks of Love so they could make hairpieces for other children who are sick and have lost their own hair.  It made me feel good to donate my hair because I really didn't need all that hair- somebody else did."

"I have lost loved ones from AIDS and have loved ones living with HIV.  For this reason, in 1997, I began to walk in the annual AIDS Walk New York 10k (6.2 miles).  The funds raised from the walk go towards HIV/AIDS prevention and education in New York and New Jersey.  This year I became a Star Walker raising over $1,300.  I reached out to co-workers, family, and friends and they helped me in surpassing my $1,000 goal.  Next year, I plan on working harder for my cause by raising even more!"

"For the past few years, I have sponsored a child at The Newark Christian School.  I visited the school and saw what miracles the school was causing to happen in inner-city children's lives with very little in terms of money, building, or educational resources.  The love of the teachers was making positive changes in this school and one could feel the joy of learning in each classroom.  I vowed that I would sponsor a child each year, and I have.  Last year, I had a very special young man, 6 year-old Justin, who was thriving at NCS.  This year when my daughter Lisa and I went to the annual luncheon for students and their sponsors, I was amazed to hear Justin's goal in life, 'to be the first person in my family to graduate from college.'  In some small way, my ability to gift this child a solid early education may help him achieve this goal.  What a wonderful way to spend one's money."
