REST IN PEACE, JOE PAUL An icon with the Philadelphia Emerald Society, the Ems are sad to report the sudden passing of Trustee and longtime board member Joe Paul on Wednesday, January 18th, 2012. Joe had attended the board meeting the previous evening and appeared to be his usual jovial self. He reportedly awoke on Wednesday not feeling well, went back to bed, and his wife discovered him a short time later, gone of an apparent sudden massive heart attack. Joe was well known as a regular at nearly all Emerald Society events, particulary the Fall Fling and when playing "Naughty Santa" at our annual Christmas party. He was also well known for having a wonderful time with his family each year at the post-parade party. Joe was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetary in Bellmawr, New Jersey on Tuesday, January 23rd. Rest in peace, Joe, and we are all quite sure that you were in Heaven with the Lord a half hour before the devil even knew you were dead. GALLAGHER'S FIELD By William Brendan McPhillips who lived in Ballaghaderreen, Ireland We used to swim at Gallagher's Field, where the bottom was almost bare, of the river and of the swimmers who swam when the sun and the Summer were there; and I try to remember, whenever I can, that I cannot remember a care. for Joe Paul ![]() We are always looking for new photos from Philadelphia Emerald Society events such as the St. Pat's parade, the Beef N Beer, the Fall Fling, the Banquet, and the Christmas party, as well as original articles, web articles, or news relating to Irish and Irish-American topics, etc.
