FAQ

What does PhiDE do?

PhiDE is the second largest greek organization on the entire campus. Also, we are probably the most active club in the medical school.

We organize educational events for our members, our classmates, and the school. We raise money for Children's Miracle Network. We organize service projects for Children's hospital of Birmingham. We donate medical equipment to the UABSOM free clinic. We work to promote mentor relationships for our members with practicing teachers &  physicians. We throw parties. We travel to fraternity conventions. In summary, we constantly seek to better ourselves and our community through our actions and our relationships.

Who can be a member?

All medical students at UAB are eligible. All that is required is that you make a firm commitment to be actively involved in the Fraternity's activities, and that you adhere to the policies of the School of Medicine & the national fraternity.

Membership is not determined by the traditional fraternity hazing & selection processes. Membership in PhiDE is determined by your participation in the service, educational, and social activities of the fraternity.

How much does this cost?

The largest cost is your time. Members are expected to do a certain amount of community service, a certain amount of philanthropic fundraising, attend a small number of educational luncheons, and to help run the fraternity by serving on one of our committees. However, the investment of time is also the greatest way for you to build relationships with your peers and with your colleagues and mentors. For efficiency's sake, most events are planned to make the best use of students' time & to take advantage of our day-to-day academic schedule at UAB.

Members are required to keep current with their national dues. This costs $50-$100 per year, depending on how long you have been a member.
Local dues are set by the individual chapter, and voted upon each year. Local dues are expected to be between $70 and $150 each year.

We'd really love to meet you. Please contact the VP of Programming , Richard Barrett, for more information.
