How to do xtabond2 is a rather nice guide to GMM analysis using STATA. I currently extend my Master thesis FGLS analysis of provincial income inequality in China. I apply a simple growth model with industrial output, employment capital and inequality measured by the Theil Index, and obtain similar results to FGLS :) The Theil appears positive and robust. I hope to publish on that soon.

The best theoretical introductionto GMM methods I could find is a paper by Bond (2002).
