Welcome. This website outlines the guidelines and expectations for the University of Wyoming PhD e-Portfolio in Counselor Education & Supervision. Please follow these guidelines carefully, and ask your advisor/chair any questions you may have. As a summary of your work, the e-Portfolio is constructed across the course of your graduate studies. Each element of the portfolio will be addressed in numerous classes, with several assignments closely paralleling specific papers for the portfolio. This is so that you can be actively constructing and revising your e-Portfolio throughout your time in the program. However, your e-Portfolio reviews will require considerable preparation beyond what is expected in class.
e-Portfolio Functions
The PhD e-Portfolio in Counselor Education & Supervision is intended to meet the following functions:
- To serve as a tool for the faculty and your graduate committee to evaluate your graduate work;
- To serve as documentation that your learning and experience meets CACREP and UW Graduate School standards and expectations;
- To serve as a tool for you to use in presenting yourself to potential employers; and
- To serve as a personal summary of your graduate studies.
Basic Guidelines
- The PhD e-Portfolio serves as an intensive evaluation of your graduate work (a stipulation of the graduate school). Therefore, your e-Portfolio must reflect high standards of scholarship and excellence.
- The PhD e-Portfolio should look professional. Be creative, and offer a professional presentation.
- All the documents in your e-Portfolio should be clearly identified.
- Adhere to APA format. Remember to use headings in papers to identify different sections.
- Your writing should clearly demonstrate your understanding of the relevant literature.
- Unless otherwise stated, all papers should have appropriate citations. Avoid citing general text books—use original books and articles from scholarly journals.
- Avoid any secondary citations (“X, as cited by Y”) and personal communications.
- Writing should demonstrate deep reflection that evidences critical thinking, integration, and intellectual, emotional, and personal growth.
- Each philosophy statement should be no shorter than eight pages, and no longer than ten pages (this number does not include cover pages or reference pages).
