I had one of the better weeks last week.  Things are going well at work.  Got a couple pats on the back from the top brass, which is always nice.  Also got a nice little birthday gift and a wonderful card from the office mates.  At least they didn't take my  sometimes grumpy mood personally :)  I still need to work on it.  Mom and Ha made a terrific noodle soup.  To top them all off, Zoey couldn't be happier and behave better over the weekend.  She slept well, ate well, and had a constant smile on her face.  I feel so blessed.

We didn't do much over the long July 4th weekend, went to a friend's bbq, visited family, and met up with another friend for dinner.  The rest of the time, we just took Zoey out for walks, to book stores, ...  It is a lot of fun watching Zoey grows up, picks up things.  It was hard dropping her off Monday morning.  I didn't show up at work till 10AM.

Work is going to be real busy very soon.

I spent a few days in Boston a couple weeks ago for Stu's wedding.

Got a chance to meet up with a lot of old faces, played some volleyball.  Had way too much food as usual.  Met up with a friend for lunch around the Financial District area, the parking fee was almost higher than the lunch bill (with lobster).  Yes, I had lobster, among other seafood, for lunch.

The NBA playoffs and MLB overlap for a few weeks early in the summer.  It often happens that the Lakers and Redsox play on the same day.  This year, I think they had never won on the same day, and therefore denied me the wholesome pleasure of enjoying both of my beloved teams wins.  Not only that, it happened often enough that I expect one of the two would lose on the night they both play.

Tonight, they played on the same night again, only the stakes were a little higher, Lakers in game 4 (up 2-1) of the Finals, and Redsox going for a third series sweep and 8-0 season record against the Yanks.

Well, toward the end of the first half, the Lakers were down 10 points.  At the same time, Redsox were down 1-3 bottom of the eighth.  I thought to myself, well, if I had to choose now, I'd settle with a Redsox lost so that the Lakers would win.  As soon as I had that thought, Redsox started their comeback.  They scored 3 in the eighth to go up 4-3, then Paps closed it out in the ninth.  Here I was, sitting in front of the TV during half time of the Lakers game, trying to prepare myself for a heartbreak.

Thanks to some Magics blunders at the end of regulation and overtime, the Lakers made an improbable comeback and won it in overtime.

What a night!

The wife and I went out on a "date" Saturday, leaving Zoey home with the grand parents.  We had a great time, a little more rushed than we used to, but no more than what we expected.

It's water melon season, we bought 4 on our trip to Costco over the weekend.  I'll end up devouring at least three of them by myself.

I'll be in Boston for 4 days later this month.  I am really looking forward to catching up with many friends there, but it'll also be the first time I'll be away from Zoey.

I was too lazy to go to a Mens Warehouse store to get fitted for a tux, so I called them up to see if they can use the measurements they had on their computer from two years ago.

me: you guys should have my measurements from two years ago.  can you use them for this one?

tux specialist: from two years ago??? are you sure all the measurements are still good?

me: yeah, i think so.  had a baby, but i don't think i gained any weight.

tux specialist (still skeptical): your waist still 30?

me: yes

tux specialist: your weight is 158?

me: yeah, well, 155 now.

tux specialist: oh, that's GOOD!!!!!

Here's the baby

I had wanted to take a couple weeks of after the tapeout last month.  But so far it hasn't been happening.  We are hesitate to take long trip because of Zoey eating and sleeping habits.  Plus, I've taken on a new project that I have complete control of.  It's fun and exciting, but it's uncharted territory for me.

Wow, it has been a long while since I last blogged.  The main reason was work has been super busy.  I felt like being a grad student again, and that is an understatement.  Adding Zoey on top of that, and sleep quickly became a luxury.  That was with a ton of help and understanding from the grand parents and Ha.

Anyhow, we completed the last project.  I have about a week to relax before embarking on the next one.

It is exciting to watch Zoey growing.  It is amazing to see how fast she picks things up from watching us.  Unlike me, I think she will have no problem paying attention to details and picking up subtle things.  Then again, I always have to remind myself "your kids are not that special".  Guess whose quote that is (I drop one or two not so nice words from the quote)

I was talking to an acquaintance about how politics becomes dirtier the higher you move up corporate ladder.  And he said "it's nasty up there".

Well, I am eager to find out.
