About Me

Padi Hallam Joseph

I am a Ph.D. student of Political Science (A.B.D.) in the fourth year of study at the University of Pittsburgh.  I am a current Dean's Dissertation Fellowship recipient and plan to graduate in Spring 2013.  In addition, I formerly assisted Dr. Jon Hurwitz with editorial duties for the journal Political Behavior.

Previous to my studies at the University of Pittsburgh, I received my B.A. ('05), certificate in Applied Politics ('05), and M.A. ('07) in Political Science at the University of Akron, while working for Dr. John C. Green at the Bliss Institute of Applied Politics as a research assistant. Outside of academia, I worked for the survey research firm CMO Research, conducting analytical research for companies and university researchers.  I was also employed by several political campaigns, including presidential, congressional, and local Ohio races.

My research areas of interest include political psychology, behavioral elite-mass linkages, the media, and elections.  My dissertation explores how value priorities shape individuals' information preferences and susceptibility to media framing by elites.  I am also conducting research regarding the diffusion of campaign behaviors between levels of the ballot through elites and into the way partisanship affects environmental behaviors among the mass public.
