Counselor Job Description

 

What does a Counselor do?

v     Meets with students individually and in small groups

v     Helps identify the needs of students

v     Helps students explore options and alternatives

v     Aids teachers and parents in helping children

v     Coordinates efforts with other school specialists

v     Maintains appropriate student confidences

v     Aids in child abuse identification, reporting, and referrals

v     Counsels students with academic, social, and/or emotional concerns

 

How does a student see the Counselor?

v     Appointment set up by student or counselor

v     Parent request

v     Referral by teachers, administrators, peers, or outside agencies

 

How does a parent see the Counselor?

v     Contact your child’s counselor by phone or email for an appointment for a personal conference

v     Counselor’s schedules are more flexible than those of teachers.  You should be easily accommodated.
