Today | As a young man I worked with the British Antarctic Survey where I was involved in the construction of a new base on floating ice but soon moved on to major reconnaissance expeditions. On return to England I spent over three decades working with young people in outdoor education and was warden of an outdoor pursuit centre for 23 years. Though now technically retired I am fully occupied with my hobbies of carpentry, writing, mapping local interest areas, and lecturing as well as walking, cycling and (when possible) skiing. | ![]() Forty years ago |
My book Dog Days on Ice tells of my Antarctic experiences, and sample photos from the book can be seen on Dog Days pictures. Reviews of my book can be read on Dog Days Reviews.
A major interest now is giving illustrated talks to raise funds for the charity Mercy Ships. The topics are wide ranging drawing on my work with young people plus personal travel and an interest in Polar History as well as presentations about Mercy Ships itself. See Lectures / Talks.
In addition I have written poems and songs about my Antarctic experience (Polar Poetry & Songs). A more recent interest has resulted in the publication of user friendly maps for visitors to two Wiltshire forests: Mapping.
I became a Christian in 1990 and have written what I trust are thought provoking articles on Faith & Religion.
