DescriptionThis bow dates back to the golden period of bow making and dates from 1862 to 1865, and came to me from a prestigious Swiss collector whose collection contained many bows by Dominique Peccatte and Francois Tourte. The stick is from the workshop of Francois Peccatte and is in my opinion by Francois Peccatte himself. The frog and button are by Lenoble. From 1862 Lenoble is registered as a tenant at 37 Rue de Clignancourt, the address of Francois Peccatte's widow. They lived together for several years and during this time Lenoble put his mounts on Francois Peccatte's sticks. The stick on this bow is exactly what one might expect from one of the greatest makers and is taken to extremes - it is worked thin but plays beautifully, and is suitable for recital and solo work. The stick is made out of the most fabulous pernambuco. The chamfers on the head have the characteristic file marks unique to this maker. Playing CharacteristicsThis bow is sublime and reacts in the hand in a similar manner to his brother's bows (Dominique Peccatte) and those of work colleague Joseph Henry. Most violinists are not fortunate enough to experience playing on bows of this nature, so to an extent the bow teaches the violinist how to play properly! Condition ReportThis bow is splined (has a small repair to the head - an insert of pernambuco). Otherwise this bow is in mint condition. £6000 sold |
