Fine Bows‎ > ‎

Etienne Pajeot and his workshop circa 1830

From fine_bows

Description

I have a tremendous regard for Pajeot, one of the most important early pioneers along with Tourte and Adam.  Where he differs is the sheer beauty of line and model.  Indeed so graceful is his design that the best of modern makers are constantly drawing from his influence in their bows.  Here we have the original item, what a specimen it is!  One of the most remarkable attributes a Pajeot bow exhibits is the quality and depth of sound.  Almost unique to this maker in this department he probably can't be equalled.  As Millant states 'Etienne Pajeot remains one of the most brilliant craftsmen of his generation.  He produced a large number of bows of remarkable quality, appreciated by musicians for their technical possibilities and by collectors for their aesthetic qualities'.  This is probably one of the best early French bows currently on offer in Britain, a player using lateral thinking could find the most exquisite bow to play on in this example.

Playing characteristics

The feel of a fine Pajeot is quite unique, an amazingly detailed contact with the string is perhaps the most striking sensation.  It is also very close to the sensation you feel when playing a fine Tourte, a feeling that you can mould the sound in a much more nuanced way than with most bows.  Most violinists don't know of Pajeot but when they try one they can't believe how they work, a true delight.

Condition

Complete with its glowing certificate from Bernard Millant this bow is a wonderful example of this great maker's work.  It is in mint condition with only a slight repair to the head.
